The Writers Group Murders

THE WRITERS GROUP MURDERS presents a love obsessed antagonist, MACIE MILBANK, whose mind is ravaged by bad timing witnessing the death of her cheating father. His Infidelity is a sword that sliced through her psyche leaving half the mind insane and the other at war with itself searching for its better half.

As a young woman, MACIE MILBANK is too beautiful to be missed, too smart to be caught, and too insane to be loved. Murder is her only antidote. Death has its own alluring beauty that soothes an unrequited love. Not the mechanism of death, but the fleeting image of surprise on its victim’s faces. When an aspiring writer, BRENT COMMINGS, becomes the latest love du jour, the competition must be eliminated. The Writers Group holds the key to a murder mystery that DETECTIVE JAMES of the Baltimore PD is tasked with solving as his murder board fills up with suspects.

Reviews

Michael Durney is an accomplished author with several successful publications to his credit - mainly spy-oriented which I enjoy reading. His latest release - "The Writers Group Murders" - is perhaps his best to date. It begins with some tantalizing twists and turns which entices the reader to delve further. The ending is left to the readers imagination which only adds to the overall enjoyment of the book. It is a must read!

What an engrossing read! The first chapter had me by the sleeve but by the second chapter, you're fully in the author’s grasp. The story is well written and will keep you up late as you won't want to put it down. Confusion, concern, and outright fear are de rigueur while reading this book. Each character is well developed, and you need to steel yourself for a rather shocking conclusion. I was left feeling appalled and shocked by Maci, and relieved for Brent, Sophie and Ham. Keep ‘em coming, Mr. Durney!

Brent Cummings had always wanted to write a book and have it published. He felt that forming a group of like minds would help him achieve his dream. However, not long after, he realized that managing a group of aspiring writers could be as challenging as becoming a successful writer, if not worse. What began as harmless critiquing of each other’s works eventually snowballed into destructive remarks aimed below the belts. Nevertheless, could hurtful words and bruised egos be a motive for murders? The murderers of Jonathan Nix and Tom Lynch, followed by that of Ms. Feldman (or was hers a suicide?) must be unraveled by the detectives. What sort of coincidence or perhaps set up, would make fictional plot to mirror real life murders? The Writers Group Murders is an intriguing story of how good intentions can go awfully wrong. Brent was only a roofing guy, a law-abiding citizen who was caught up. Would he be able to prove his innocence and save the others as well? Only time will tell.

109320260 _sassy_39's reviewJan 31, 2025 it was amazing Michael A. Durney delivers a suspenseful and chilling thriller in The Writers Group Murders. At its heart is Macie Milbank, a woman whose life has been shadowed by tragedy. As a child, she learned a brutal lesson about betrayal when her mother, Sherry, caught her husband, Frank, in an affair with her sister, Casey. In a moment of fury, Sherry ended both their lives—an act that left an unsettling impression on Macie, shaping her view of morality and justice. Years later, Brent Cummings established a Writers Group, bringing together a small circle of aspiring authors. When Macie moves into the brownstone next to Brent, their bond is immediate. But Macie’s presence is anything but innocent. Soon, members of the group begin to die in seemingly accidental ways. Coincidence? Or is there something more sinister lurking beneath the surface? Detective James takes on the case, determined to uncover the truth behind the mysterious deaths. As the investigation unfolds, the suspense builds, keeping readers hooked until the very last page. With a compelling narrative, well-crafted characters, and a story full of unexpected twists, The Writers Group Murders is a must-read for fans of gripping thrillers.
